Miss Asia Pacific International was founded in 1968 as Miss Asia Quest and was first opened for contestants from Asia and Oceania.
The name was changed to the Miss Asia-Pacific quest in 1985, when competitors from North and South America bordering the Pacific Ocean were allowed to compete.
In 2005, the current title was chosen, and contestants from around the world were allowed to change their name to Miss Asia Pacific International.
In 2016, the competition was restored, and Tessa Le Conge from the Netherlands became the winner of the Miss Asia-Pacific International 2016.
The current title holder is Sharif Akil from the Philippines, who was crowned Oct. 4, 2018.
In 2005, the winner Leonora Jimenez Monge (Costa Rica) was “disqualified” after participating in the Miss World competition, and Yevgenia Lapova (Russia) was chosen instead.
